Inevitably, there comes a moment in every phone conversation with a potential client when I am asked if I take insurance. My standard answer is "I am not in-network with any insurance provider nor do I file insurance claims. However, I do provide you with a "superbill" that provides you with all the information you need to file an out-of-network claim--and I'd be happy to help you navigate the first claim so you know where all the numbers and codes go".

Many individuals initially lean toward in-network providers due to insurance coverage. However, opting for out-of-network pelvic physical therapy can provide you with valuable benefits, including potential cost savings and improved care quality. In this post, I hope to share why choosing out-of-network pelvic physical therapist like me could be a smarter option for your health.

Understanding Out-of-Network Pelvic Physical Therapy

Out-of-network pelvic physical therapy means that, here at Queen City Pelvic PT, I am not affiliated with any health insurance plan. This gives you and me the freedom to work together to create a treatement plan that is tailored to you. While you may need to pay for your sessions upfront, I provide you with what's called a "superbill" and you have the option to submit claims to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Everyone's insurance plan is different, so it is important to know your plan and understand your out-of-network benefits.

Even if you don't have great out-of-network benefits, coming to see me may be more cost-effective in the long run. Here's why: If you haven't met your deductible, you will STILL need to pay out of pocket at an in-network location! An initial visit with a major corporate healthcare provider system can be anywhere from $400-$1200! Going to an out-of-network provider like me will be significantly more economical. Your hard-earned money will go a lot further! My initial visits are $210 and follow ups are $160 (at time of printing in 2025).

Benefits of Out of Network Pelvic Physical Therapy

Personalized Care

One of the most notable benefits of out-of-network pelvic physical therapy is the personalized attention you receive from me. Because I manage fewer patients, I can dedicate more time to each individual. For example, I spend 60 minutes per session developing a tailored treatment plan specifically for you and am accessible by email, phone, or text. You don't typically get that type of service at many in-network clinics!

Specialized Expertise and Experience

I have specialized in the niche area of pelvic health for 15 of my 30 years of practicing as a therapist. I have taken a multitude of advanced courses in pelvic health. I can provide my clients with a wide range of treatment interventions, including dry needling, myofascial release, biofeedback, exercise prescription and progression, lifestyle modifications, electrical stimulation, and more. I have developed relationships and referral sources within the pelvic health community, ranging from physicians, personal trainers, nutritionists, counselors, and beyond. I possess a level of maturity and knowledge that you will not always find with new grads just entering the pelvic rehab setting.

Flexible Scheduling

High demand at in-network facilities can lead to long wait times for appointments or limited scheduling options. In contrast, as an out-of-network therapist, I often provide greater flexibility to accommodate your lifestyle. On average, I see clients every two weeks, but if you need to be seen more frequently, we can do that! If you need to space appointments further apart, we can do that! We can adjust as you need without insurance companies dictating a time frame or number of visits.

Comprehensive Treatment Approaches

As an out-of-network pelvic physical therapist, I can employ a wider variety of treatment techniques, such as biofeedback, manual therapy, and holistic methods. This comprehensive approach helps improve outcomes, as I can adjust strategies to your specific needs. For example, I might blend traditional physical therapy with mindfulness practices or therapeutic yoga to better address both the physical and emotional aspects of pelvic health. I take into consideration your whole life and body--not just your pelvis! You are whole person with a whole life. For example, we may explore how stress or desk setup at work may be playing a role in your pelvic issues or how your diet and water intake impacts your bowel and bladder health. There are no cookie-cutter remedies so each person receives individual assessment and care!

Real Cost Savings

While it may seem counterintuitive, out-of-network pelvic physical therapy can lead to significant cost savings.

  • Reduced Treatment Frequency: Many patients find they need fewer sessions with out-of-network therapists due to the personalized nature of care. This could mean needing only 6-8 sessions compared to 12-16 sessions with more generalized care from in-network providers.

  • Higher Quality Care: Investing in high-quality care can help you save money on additional treatments later. For example, effective pelvic therapy might prevent the need for more invasive surgeries, which can average between $10,000 to $15,000.

  • Insurance Reimbursement: Many insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network services. By filing claims, you may recover a percentage of your session costs, making out-of-network therapy more budget-friendly than it initially appears. Again, everyone's insurance plan is different, so it's important to know your benefits.

Your Path to Healthier Living

Choosing out-of-network pelvic physical therapy can be a wise and economical decision for your well-being. The benefits of personalized care, specialized expertise, and flexible scheduling can lead to better treatment outcomes for your pelvic health issues.

Focusing on the real cost savings of out-of-network options strengthens the case for investing in your health today. You could discover a path to recovery that is not just effective but also financially manageable.
